O When Will the Laundry End? (Load One)

So there it is - the eternal, stinky, ever-growing, never-shrinking pile of dirty laundry.  If you do really well washing it one week, you may have an enormous Mount Needs-to-be-Folded.  Sigh.  And after that comes basket after basket of Put-It-All-Away, lady!  Double sigh.  What can be done?  How can we alleviate the laundry workload?

Like Braveheart so aptly put it, I want "FREEDOM!"  From laundry...it is oppresive!!

And yes, this is a picture of my laundry pile.  Half of this week's laundry.  Sigh.

Innovative ways to decrease the laundry....hmm...

We could join a nudist colony...that would really cut down on laundry.  I think my three-year-old boy would be all for it, but the rest of the family would be hard to convince.  OK - I'm not that fond of the idea...but I'm just brainstorming here.

Maybe I should go with what I know.

In my opinion, the best laundry setup in the history of the world belongs to Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar.  The Duggar family's setup is ingenius! When you are handling laundry for 20 people on a daily basis, you've got to have a system in place or you're sunk!  I recall one of the older daughters saying that they have to get the first four loads of laundry done each morning, or the pile becomes really overwhelming. Yipes!

So, their idea was to keep all the clothes in the laundry room.  All shirts, pants, dresses, etc. are hung neatly on hangers and organized by size.  All shoes are kept in bins.  All like-sized socks are kept in bins.  Voila!  No more need for dressers.  No more need for hauling clothes up and down the stairs and <ahem> the best part - no more putting all of it away in dressers neatly, only to be rustled around and unfolded. GENIUS!

Currently, we are using a total of one of their genius ideas in our household: wear jammies three nights at a time...that is...if we haven't had syrup for breakfast.  Unlike the Duggars, we still wear jammies at breakfast because it is sometimes spilled, which leads to a clothing change.  I don't want to add extra work for myself, so this is the way we do it. And I have a four-year-old that wears multiple unmatching jammie combos, so I'm never sure how many nights she's worn them.  And my 3-year-old sweats through his jammies or his diaper leaks, so his jammies never make it through one night.  OK - so it's not working.  But we're trying.

All this to say, I know an awesome way to cut down on the laundry chore, but I haven't taken any steps toward simplifying my laundry routine.

There has got to be a better way!!!

SO...

What can I (really) do to improve my laundry setup?

P.S. - I read about the Duggar's laundry setup in The Duggars 20 and Counting.  I highly recommend it!  If nothing else, it is inspiring to read about how they do life daily as a large family.  And then think about how easy it is in comparison to run my household of 5.  Makes my problems seem practically insignificant.  I also love how they have integrated their faith in Christ into every aspect of their day.  Inspiring, really.
