From Pioneers to Do-Nothings (Part Two)

Do you know what our society has produced?  A generation of self-centered youth who have no desire to take care of themselves, no desire to succeed.  No ambition to work or start their own businesses or have their own place to live.

I remember it being a thrill to live in my own place for the first time.  I had my first real job, and split the rent with a friend from college.  That place was a dump!  But it was our dump.

Ok - it wasn't this bad, but you know what I mean.  Did you ever live in such a place?  Ah, the starter home!

Weird 70's green, yellow, and orange shag carpet, along with that fake dark wood paneling and uneven floors. That tiny house was undesirable to everyone except us.  The newbies to the adult world.  Living on our own and loving it.  I loved putting my bi-weekly paycheck in the bank and shopping for groceries each week.  Discount groceries.  I remember saving just as much as I possibly could...just in case.

Where has their ambition gone?

How do we get it back?

Work isn't fun most of the time.  Starting your own business is a struggle and a risk.  Paying off your student loan debt isn't a party.  Budgeting and paying a mortgage - not the stuff of spring break.  Parenting is a big responsibility that may require you to give up your plans, your sleep, your leisure.

But each of these risks is worth it.  Each of these steps improve a person's life, self-worth, finances (ok - parenting doesn't improve finances, but you get while I mean) and sense of responsibility.  Making better citizens, better employers and employees, better families.

I want this for our family.
I want this for our community.
I want this for our country.
I want this for our world.

"The sleep of a laborer is sweet,
whether they eat little or much."  Ecclesiastes 5:12

Working hard and knowing you've done a good job - finding satisfaction in your work - this is the gift of God!  God says so!

Ecclesiastes 3:12-13 says:
"I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live.
That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God."

Let's take back our country, with its' pioneer ideals - beginning with our own families.

Who is with me?
