Homeschool Morning Routine: Help!!!

(Here my third grade daughter is helping her brother and sister with preschool/kindergarten reading)

This summer, I searched for a fun  morning routine for homeschoolers, and I was surprised that I found none.  None at all.  Hmmm...

So I began to think of what I wanted for our morning routine:

1. A "good morning" song
2. Praise and worship song (super fun)
3. Occasional devotions
4. Learning songs for my preschoolers
5. Pledge of Allegiance

I discovered the JOY of Youtube, and I was off to the races.

Here is an example of our morning routine.  We use more or less, depending on the time we have available on a particular day.

Phil Joel - "It's A Good Good Good Good Good Good Morning!"

By beginning with some fast-paced dance songs, the children dance around the room and get their blood pumping.  It's kind of like gym and music class at the same time.  I try to choose songs that scroll the lyrics so my new reader can practice reading while having fun.

I choose praise songs because we want to thank God for his many blessings.  I thank God that we can talk openly about him in our homeschool every day.

Any song by havefunteaching is a blast.  Awesome dance music and innovative ways to learn concepts such as the days of the week, the alphabet, manners, the weather - there is even a series of videos devoted to exercise.  I pull those out on our blah weather days.  I also use these songs for "brain breaks" when one or more of my children (usually my 7-year-old) develops the glassy I'm-no-longer-thinking stare.

Pledge of Allegiance by littlestorybug

The Pledge of Allegiance is very important to us, and I don't want to skip over it just because we're at home.  I have purposely included this in our morning routine to emphasize being thankful for the freedoms we have as Americans, and how blessed we are to live in this great country.  We also watched an outstanding video by the usvetsnetwork explaining why we say the Pledge every day.

So there ya have it - our basic morning routine.  We start the day energized and focused, and if I've played my cards right, each child is tired out enough to want to sit down and begin schoolwork.  Score one for mom!

I keep my morning routine saved in a YouTube folder.  I can pick out the videos on my laptop in the evening, then show them on the YouTube channel on our tv in the morning.  Love it!!
