Mom vs. Homeschooling
(Hubby and I are having fun seeing South Pacific in
Pittsburgh this summer. Neither of us are terribly
photogenic, but we know how to have fun!)
Hi Friends!
I have been considering changing the name of my blog to "Mom vs. Homeschooling." Or maybe I will start a new blog under that name. I think it more accurately reflects the subjects I cover, and it would lend itself well to adding "day in the life" videos to our YouTube Channel. Homeschooling is a passion of mine, albeit flawed and sometimes lacking enthusiasm. Most likely, this will not happen, but I'm thinking about it, so I thought I should let you know. I like to make plans, but don't always follow through due to lack of time to do anything about it.
I didn't want to use a fluffy name like "Perfect, Peaceful Homeschooling", because it's not anything like that. I'll keep you updated, but I'd love your input - keep Mom vs. the Dot, or move on to Mom vs. Homeschooling? (I think MvH is a lot catchier)
There is just so much to write about when I think about homeschooling. Even if my children have a great day in our homeschool, there is the anxiety I face each day - am I teaching them enough? Am I teaching them the right things? How can I help them understand the Bible is real, it's for them, and Jesus is their lifelong, dependable no-matter-what friend? Does what we do compare to public school? Should that even matter? How do other homeschool families seem to be perfectly at peace with their decision to homeschool? I still have questions about one of my children, whom I believe to have an undiagnosed learning disability. All these things rattle around in my head every day, sometimes as fleeting thoughts, other times keeping me up at night.
I want to share the highs and lows, great ideas and flops, and do it with flare! Or at least a good dose of humor.
I would also like to take a moment to "rename" my kids. Fun little code names that reveals their personality, while keeping their actual identities safe. You understand.
So here are their new superhero code names:
I think my code name should be "Type-A Wanna Be,"
but I'll just stick with names for the kids. I am the narrator, the teacher, the boo-boo fixer, the taxi driver, the fun-maker, the nutritionist and sometimes dictator...I am the MOM!
No other name needed.

(Here my kids made me the enemy pirate in a backyard war game. Count me in!)

That's my secret to homeschooling, raising kids, and being married - always keep your sense of humor. It is a reliable salve that heals most wounds and makes almost anything bearable. And, of course, trust in God. He's got my back! And pray. Pray a lot.
I would also like to take a moment to "rename" my kids. Fun little code names that reveals their personality, while keeping their actual identities safe. You understand.
So here are their new superhero code names:
My 9-year-old daughter is Art Girl (Armed with Crayola markers, she turns tall stacks of paper into comic stories)
My 6-year-old daughter is Shop Girl (She loves collecting Shopkins and loves to...Shop!)
My 5-year-old son is Hulk Boy (Naturally, his favorite color is green and his favorite superhero is The Hulk. He loves to smash things, too. Perfect fit!)
I think my code name should be "Type-A Wanna Be,"
