Back to the Grind
After a three-day stint of "holing up," I decided to brave going out into the world again.
Well...it wasn't exactly a voluntary decision. We were out of groceries.
The break was so nice - we spent half a week visiting with relatives and opening Christmas presents, and the other half of the week resting at home and enjoying our presents. I couldn't have asked for better. And hubby had the week off. Nice to have him home.
Days on end with no schedule, no appointments, no commitments - it was grand!
And a little unnerving. I felt so off-kilter not having our normal routine.
The kids sort of went crazy the first two days we took off of school, then they played endlessly at every relative's house with whichever children or dogs were available to play with.
Hours and hours of Infinity 3.0 were logged (our 8-year-old's most-wanted Christmas gift). The "twins" spent many hours on the iPad, playing computer games, and playing. I slept in as late as I wanted to (10:00 most days!), and shuffled through the house enjoying Christmas goodies. I could flop on the couch and read any of my new books that struck my fancy. I could snuggle my children without feeling guilty that something else needed to be done. If our 4-year-old wanted to read a book together or play with magnets, I said, "OK!" and we did it. It was like a vacation!
It was vacation.
It was glorious!!
And today I woke up with the knowledge that dinner needed to be made and I was out of supplies. Rats. "Well," I thought to myself, "I'll just jaunt out there for an hour or so and be back for lunch."
Hah! I was so wrong.
Was anyone else out shopping today? Wait...was anyone not shopping today? Were you out there? After stocking up on Christmas and New Year's groceries, you would think everyone would be set for at least a week. Wrong. Everyone, everyone EVERYONE was out shopping today.
Walmart's parking lot was so crowded that I had to wait 10 minutes in traffic just to decide it was too crazy and leave the lot again. Aldi was restocked from their almost bare state on New Year's Eve (hubby went for milk and there was none to be had that day) and the Dollar Tree apparently did a huge reset and is now ready for Valentine's Day. Good grief!
Well, back to the grind. Everyone is restocking for school, work, and life as usual.
I wonder what 2016 has in store for us?
