First Time DIY!!!

Do the letters "DIY" make you break out in a cold sweat?

Me too.

But I decided it was time to try it out when our church's preschool classroom desperately needed some storage space.  All our supplies were clumped in piles around the room.  It drove me crazy!!

I like to have a place for everything, and everything in its' place (not that that usually happens because I have 3 little pixies that undo any neatness that may exist in the house or at church).

I was shown a gigantic, heavy cabinet in the basement that needed cleaned out.

Although thankful for the offer, I really needed a piece of furniture I could move around when it was time to rearrange the classroom.  I also didn't want a cupboard that would overwhelm the room and the preschoolers.

So I thought I'd try my hand at revamping some furniture to spiff up our preschool classroom at church.

(Yes, "spiff up."  Does anyone say that anymore?  Did anyone ever say that?  Well, I think it fits, so I'm using it.  Writer's privilege.)

Bought the t.v. cabinet at Goodwill with my 20% off coupon - $8.00.  Score!!
(I was so excited to get painting that I forgot to take a "before" picture.)

A few cans of iris blue spray paint at Walmart - $12.00.

After removing hardware, and the back of the cabinet, it took a day or two to get the paint looking right.  It still looked a little icky here, but after another coat or two, it looked a lot better.

We took it to church today and put it in the classroom.
(OK - my hubsie did it.  I have been told I have noodle arms.  Heavy lifting is not my forte.)

Voila!  A new-looking piece of furniture for about $20.00.

Pretty good for a non-crafty, non-handy first-time DIY project, eh?

The classroom is uncluttered and I feel accomplished.

What should I try next?

(I have another piece of furniture in the elementary classroom that needs some fun neon paint.  I'm working up the courage to try it.)
