The Good Days

My previous post may have seemed a little grim in its perspective, but like everything else in life, we have good days and bad days.

Some of the most wonderful homeschool days are when I come home from work and my husband has just finished teaching them for the day.  He's so excited to show me what they covered and how well each child did.

One day last week, he brought out his photo album from his trip to Israel.  The biggest takeaway was that the kids got to hold a real, actual rock from the valley where David defeated Goliath.

Hulk Boy was seriously impressed, and my husband took the time to share a passion of his with the kids.

When I came home from work today, they had just finished an exciting lesson in entomology.  My hubby had found a really different looking bug while at work one day.  It was dead, so he put it in an envelope and brought it home.  This morning, he dumped the little bugger out of the envelope.  After the girls got over the "eew" factor, they moved on to identifying the insect.  My husband Googled images for grasshoppers and praying mantises, but nothing matched their bug.

So Shop Girl asked if they could check out crickets, so they Googled that.  And ya know what?  They found it!  Here is the bug they properly identified today.

Ta-da!

On my way home from work, I picked up two inexpensive kits, hoping to spice homeschool up this week, over a number of days.  As soon as the kids saw them, they wanted to try everything right away.

First was the Aquabeads set.  We have a bead craft due for our homeschool group next week.  I am sooo not crafty, and I thought this kit would help us get creative.  Well...it wasn't this kit exactly, but it's the same kind of thing.

Then I found this little jewel.  I was hoping to study the planets and astronauts in November, so I brought this home.

It's only a $5.00 kit, but you'd have thought I'd brought Hulk Boy the moon!  He was so excited about it.

The kids didn't even want to each lunch.  They wanted to dive into their projects right away!

I made them eat lunch, and then we got into it.

I love their enthusiasm, I love my husband's excitement....it's contagious!

And then, tonight, they suited up and we went trick-or-treating as their favorite characters.
Candy candy candy!

We have a lot of good days, and I need to focus on them waaaay more than the what if's.  Days like this remind me of what's really important.  I need to enjoy this time with our kids - it's going to be flying by faster than Haley's comet.  A much needed perspective check.
