Homeschool Bargain Shopping
We don't need backpacks or lunchboxes. We have no supply lists.
Basically, my fall prep is bargain hunting for fun stuff my kids will love. Yay!!
Here is what I've done to get ready for school.
Goodwill trip - $15.00 for 20 chapter books, Berenstein Bears, logic puzzles and games, craft books, etc. They're listed as 25 cents each, but some were marked higher. If only I'd known there was a 50% off sale at the end of the month, I could've paid only $7.50 for all this goodness.
(I know not all 20 books are here, but I couldn't fit them all in the frame.)
Ollie's Bargain Outlet ("Good Stuff Cheap") - drawing books, roller coaster science, art, history, a big, colorful U.S. map, chapter books (choose-your-own-ending and comic book style = big win!!) Most items were for my 4th grader, but I found sight word cards and a large bucket of sidewalk chalk for my littles. Total price? $20.00!
Add these supplies to my already existing art supplies and a few other workbooks I've picked up along the way, and of course some books from both grandma and nana!
So, I've spent $35.00 and we're pretty much ready for the school year.
I used to stress about buying boxed curriculum (usually $250 or more per child, per grade) and then I discovered something important:
Kids can learn basic skills without taking out a small loan to purchase each year's curriculum.
We go to the library to fill in gaps, and we use the internet and learning websites frequently. Homeschooling could really be done for free, but don't tell the curriculum companies I said that.
So there you go - homeschool mom has epic time finding bargains and kids have epic fun while learning.
Mission Accomplished!
